There is a saying “Concept is the KING” well, at Mentors Tag we truly believe in it. Understanding concepts with crystal clear clarity will not only give you confidence but it also helps in performing a task during the actual work. Actually, that’s one of the reasons our video courses and practice labs are classes apart from others in the industry.
If you are planning to learn Azure Cloud and you are new to Cloud concepts or maybe just like many others you have heard about famous terms like PAAS, IAAS, and SAAS but don’t know exactly what it is and how it differs from each other then this is for you.
Here are some of the most common TERMS which you must know if you are dealing with Azure cloud Fundamentals.
Every time when you try to create something on Azure Cloud it is a Resource. Virtual Machine, Web App, Database or even a single public/private IP address is also a resource. Everything what you can create in Azure Cloud is known as Resource.
Resource Group is a Logical Grouping of multiple resources. So when you create resources mostly one resource will be related to other and we mostly need to manage it together so we can group these resources in one logical folder kind of a thing which is known as Resource group.
· Can we have multiple types of resources in one resource group? Answer is YES
· Can we have multiple resources belongs to different regions in one resource group? The answer is YES because a resource group is just a logical grouping.
Every resource which you create in Azure cloud will be located in some physical infrastructure. This infrastructure is generally huge in size and connected to each other through undersea cables across the globe. You can visualize like 1 datacenter is equivalent to a 10-story building, it is really huge infrastructure.
To see the details of Azure Global Infrastructure you must visit following link https://infrastructuremap.microsoft.com/
Azure has 64+ regions across the globe and every region is a geographic location where Azure has one or more datacentres. Remember 1 Region = Either 1 datacenter or 3 datacentres
Each blue dot in the above image is a region which can have 1 or 3 DC in it, you can also observe the connecting lines which are under sea fibre optic cables.
When we have 1 Azure region with 3 datacentres inside it then it is knows as availability zones that’s why when you check azure global infrastructure you will get to know that some regions are not having availability zones means it only has one datacenter.
Infrastructure as a service is the service offering where you will be able to manage the first 5 layers of the cloud as shown in the following image. This is the service that gives you more control compared to PAAS and SAAS.
Platform as a service is the service offering where you will be able to manage only Application and Data layers so this will be perfect for you if you are a developer working on a cloud.
Software as a service is the service offering where you have the least minimal control on the layers of the cloud because you can use all the layers but you don’t manage it – it will be managed by the cloud provider (Microsoft) in Azure. This is the easiest way to use cloud services because most things will be managed by providers.
Now because you know some core concepts and if you want to try some practical steps on Azure Cloud then here are the steps in the following links.
Note: you need an active azure subscription in order to perform any hands-on task of these practice labs.
Lab-1: Create Virtual Machine using Azure Portal
Create an Azure Virtual Machine
Lab-2: Create a Web App
